“The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the top award events of the year for the music industry. They have now been awarded every year for more than 25 years. The event has now become as much about recorded music and live performances as it is about the actual videos that are being celebrated. “The indie label community, which has benefitted from Apple’s innovations in digital distribution, is optimistic. “We are hopeful, given the continuation of existing internal management as part of the succession plan, that iTunes will continue to treat the independent music label community on an equitable basis, as they always have in the past, and look forward to continued Apple innovations that bring consumers into the music space,” A2IM president Rich Bengloff said to Billboard.biz in an email.”

“The music industry has changed drastically over the past 30 years. The various music formats–from vinyl records, to 8-track, to cassette, to CD, and then to digital downloads–show a number of transitions over the past three decades. The wax and wane of these formats is shown in a rather interesting pie chart from Digital Music News. The animated pie chart maps each format between the years of 1980 to 2010 based on RIAA revenue figures. The chart is perhaps the best way possible to represent what’s going on in the music industry in 30 seconds or less.”

“Mistake #1: Ordering too many CDs
If you hear yourself say, “Cool! We got our album done. Let’s order 1000 CDs!”, go take a cold shower and slap yourself twice. The reality of ordering this many CDs is having a box of quite a few hundred CDs collecting dust on a shelf a few years later. Worse, you will be out money since you didn’t recoup the costs.”
