Part One, of a 4-Part Series, titled “Music Industry Legal & Business Workshops.”
With Kia Kamran, Esq., Meghan Gohil, and “Hookman” Marlin Bonds
You’re a record producer, and a record label wants you to record one of their artists; the label has given you the agreement, and you need to know what you can negotiate and what the terms mean. This workshop will examine a Producer’s Agreement clause by clause. You’ll learn what each clause means for the producer, artist, and label, how to negotiate the clauses, and about standard concepts, terms, and deals. We’ll also cover the concept of recoupment from the producer’s perspective.
In today’s world of technology there are many different devices that bands are using to make music videos and virals. Hell, a few people have been making entire films from their Iphones. However, if you are not shooting a large budget project with a major label, you may not have lawyers, managers, or agents running around making sure that you have all the proper clearances.
